UMS Tuning – Autoclub Speedway, Fontana CA The UMS Tuning Time Attack Team took a hard fought second place at Autoclub Speedway.
We were picking up pace in practice juggling with gearing limitations and aero during the practice day at a notoriously high speed track. We had a tire failure nearly crash us at 168mph. We barely kept the car off of the wall and had to compromise for race day by running a shorter tire. The shorter tires caused us to hit our speed limit much earlier and was quite stressful on the engine eventually causing a failure on our second lap of the timed sessions. We managed a 1:40.885, just a bit over 2 seconds behind the winner, on the shorter tires in only one complete lap. We are confident we would have been in striking range for the win with a few more laps to gain confidence..
